Frequently Asked Questions

To assist you with your robe search, here are some answers to common robe questions. Please note our robe return policy below.

Question: How long does it take for custom robes?
Answer: It generally takes between 6 - 8 weeks.

Question: What if we can't wait that long?
Answer: There are a limited number of styles stocked in standard sizes available in the "Qwick-Ship line". Pulpit and judicial robes are well represented in Qwick-Ship! Basic choir robes for adults and children are available in several colors. There may be a short time when your size or style desired is in production and not currently on the shelf.
Orders are shipped on weekdays and typically only within 24 hours after receipt from the manufacturer.

Question: Where can I find out more information on the different fabrics that are available?
Answer: We have fabric descriptions and pictures located here.

Question: What about shipping time for these Qwick-Ship items?
Answer: Within the U.S., we can provide very fast service, as long as your selection and size are in stock.
Orders are shipped on weekdays and typically only within 24 hours after receipt from the manufacturer. We need a target date to know the shipping method that will meet your date at the most reasonable cost. Outside the U.S., we must use a 2-step shipping process for customs purposes and may delay the order by at least 10 days. Overseas orders can take from 3-12 weeks depending on the shipping method. Please communicate your needs as specifically as possible to expedite your order. Generally, the faster you want it, the more it will cost to ship it.

Question: What is the cost? (Note: all prices are in U.S. Dollars)
Answer: Custom choir robes range from $80 to almost $200. Actual robe price is determined by fabric, style, extra features like monograms, and stoles or overlays. The numerous combinations of style, fabric and color will allow you to tailor your robe to match your preferences and budget. Please note that to place an order online, the order amount must be a minimum of $25.00.

Question: Are the robes machine washable?
Answer:
The answer is yes if monograms, or special fabric textures that require special care are not used, however, professional dry-cleaning is highly recommended for all robes.

Question: How can I get started on our search for a robe?
Answer: If you desire a custom robe, request a catalog for the type of robe you're searching for (Choir, Pulpit, Children, Judicial, or Academic). If you need your robe in a hurry, you are invited to browse our online catalog and may place your order online from our "Qwick-Ship" line of products. If you desire a catalog, please include your mailing address and indicate what type of catalog you desire. Once you have seen the catalog and made your decision, we will be happy to send fabric samples for your selection.

Question: How do we contact you?
Answer: We provide an "inquiry" email link for you to email us, or you may request a catalog and select the type of catalog you desire. This is a quick way to request a catalog or provide your measurements to order the item you found. An order form/sizing information page is provided for your convenience and can be printed and FAXed or mailed with your payment. You may call us with your order, once you have all the information requested on the form. The toll-free number is 1-866-234-ROBE (7623) or (301) 352-5991. Email: brenda@davisrobes.com

How do I take accurate measurements?
Answer: Our catalogs explain the measuring process very well and there is a diagram with measuring instructions below. Your robe will fit beautifully if you provide ACCURATE measurements. Please see our return policy below.

The key measurements you need to supply are:

1) Chest at the fullest part (a man's suit-coat size)

2) Total height wearing the shoes you would wear in the robe. Ladies, please wear your shoes with the heel height you normally wear when you take your height measurement.

3) Sleeve measurement (corresponds to a man's shirt- sleeve size) Choir robes will fit standard adult arm lengths. Please see the diagram (left) as a reference. The arm must be bent and held at shoulder height in front of the chest. The measurement must be taken with a flexible tape. Start at the center of the back of the neck and go over the shoulder, around the back of the elbow to the wrist.

4) Floor clearance- (how long the hem should be from the floor). Use a ruler, stand with the appropriate shoes and measure the number of inches from the floor to where you want the bottom of the hem to stop. Anywhere from 4 -8 inches is fine, it's strictly your personal preference. All robes for a single choir are made with the same floor clearance.

5) Neck measurement is needed for styles with standing collars.

6) Band Cinctures: These are usually worn over street clothing, including pants and belt, as well as over a clergy cassock. Therefore, it is very important to add a few inches beyond your normal belt size! To measure for a band cincture, wrap a tape measure around the stomach where the cincture will be worn (over street clothing). Add 4" to this measurement to allow for cassock thickness and comfort.

Question: If we decide to order, what are the financial arrangements?

Answer: All custom robes require a 50% deposit payable upon receipt of your order. The remainder is due once the order has shipped. Qwick-Ship orders must be paid in full at the time the order is placed. Credit card orders can be called or faxed. Secure online payment is available as well. Please note that to place an order online, the order amount must be a minimum of $25.00. Your invoice is prepared and payment charged to your card AFTER shipment. If you would like to mail your payment by check for Qwick-Ship orders, please see the section on shipping information and add the appropriate shipping amount to your total.

Question: I'm not in the United States. Can I purchase robes from Davis Robes?
Answer: We are able and willing to be your source for robes. We know how to send international shipments. For other countries, you will need to do your homework about your particular customs and duty charges. Some governments have such high duty and tariff fees that it could be costly to attempt to import robes.

Return Policy

Custom-made robes ARE NOT returnable in most cases. Most choir robes and academic regalia are in the custom category. For anything in our Qwick-Ship line, our policy is as follows:

Call or email us immediately if your robe is unsatisfactory. DO NOT SHIP IT ANYWHERE UNTIL YOU HAVE CONTACTED US. All questions or problems regarding orders must be directed to us, the retailer, NOT our wholesale supplier.

DO NOT WEAR YOUR ROBE or use your purchase until you are sure you are satisfied, as we cannot accept returns on worn garments or used merchandise. If you intend to return any items, we must have e-mail notification immediately in order to provide the return shipping information. Please do not return any merchandise without contacting us first. All unworn or unused items must be returned to the supplier within 10 business days of receipt for exchange or refund.

If there is shipping damage, please save the packaging until our carrier has inspected it for insurance purposes.

If the garment is flawed, defective or the order is incorrect, we will replace it at no charge. Again, notify us immediately.

Time and money is lost while sending robes back and forth to find one that fits. Most problems with fit occur because the robe recipient did not actually take accurate measurements. We strongly recommend using our measuring techniques and reviewing the diagram presented on this page.
